A bold monogram created to represent the artist Matheus Graef. Matheus Graef specializes in digital art with a focus on fictional and fantasy themes. Graef treats fantasy and conceptual imagery with a sophistication and respect it does not often receive. Many of his pictures capture the stylistic quality of historic painting eras such as the contrast and luminance of the Baroque period. Within his illustrations he often references older drawing techniques as well, such as woodblock carving.
The monograph created for Matheus was meant to evoke the essential quality of his works. The structure of the logo makes subtle references to classical, medieval, and gothic illustration and architecture, but with a modern cleanliness and professionalism. The line work is meant to mimic the shading techniques of classic illustration and woodblock prints.
The final mark was a strong symbol which could easily be stamped into wax or burned into wood.
A custom font was created for this logo which copied many of its qualities.
There are several variants of the mark which can suit the varying style of Matheus’ work.
